The Nanosystems Institute, founded in 2014 by the National University of San Martin (UNSAM, for its initials in Spanish), is a scientific investigation area in the field of nanotechnology. Its main goal is to create original, high standard and impressive knowledge, as well as to develop technology and high-quality human resources, in order to contribute to the primary problems of industry and humanity. Through interdisciplinary work, we will generate synergy among a diverse group of chemists, physicists, engineers, biologists, among others.
The Nanosystems Institute has currently 11 researchers and 14 PhD students, 3 post-doctoral fellows and 6 professional fellows working on numerous research areas as well as technological development. This is possible due to the projects financed by companies and scientific-technological institutions from Argentina and overseas. The Nanosystems Institute published articles in renowned peer-reviewed international journals like Nature Communications, obtained scientific subsidies and carried out three industrial projects. In the same year, it collaborated with several national and international networks. A surface bactericide covering, developed by our researchers together with partners from CONICET (National Scientific and Technical Research Council) at CNEA (National Atomic Energy Commission) and UBA (University of Buenos Aires), was awarded a Gran Premio Innovar 2016 (Grand Innovation Award 2016). This experience led the researchers to create the technological enterprise HYBRIDON in 2017, along with ADOX Company and CONICET, sponsored by UNSAM.
